The Joint research program “Historic cities” has the aim of framing the conservation system of historic cities in Italy and Japan and its application over time, by the means of comparison between significant case studies represented by the cities of Bologna and Kanazawa.

Bologna and Kanazawa are very similar, both for size, geographical and socio-economic conditions. During the Sixties they have played an important role in their respective countries as “lighthouse cities” in the field of protection of historic urban centers. They also have recently both declared “Creative cities” by the Unesco and have been discovered by urban tourism.
