Bologna and Kanazawa
Protection and valorization of two historic cities
a cura di Noriko Inoue, Valentina Orioli
Bologna and Kanazawa are very similar, both for size, geographical and socio-economic conditions. During the Sixties they have played an important role in their respective countries as “lighthouse cities” in the field of protection of historic urban centers. They also have recently both declared “Creative cities” by the Unesco and have been discovered by urban tourism. Starting from these two important case studies the research develops a comparative analysis between Japan and Italy, that puts in light the contemporary issues of the protection and valorization of historic cities, facing natural disasters from one side, and deep changes in local economic systems including the growth of tourism from the other.
Noriko Inoue is professor at the Faculty of Regional Development Studies of Otemon Gakuin University, Osaka after working for the Agency for Cultural Affairs as a Senior Cultural Properties Specialist. Her studies focus on the regional and urban policy and on the conservation of the cultural heritage, in a perspective of the comparison between Japan and Italy.
Valentina Orioli is professor of urban planning at the Department of Architecture at B
