This volume aims to offer an artistic intellectual and political reading of the history of museums in Italy through closely interconnected contributions by authors from various cultural backgrounds. By interlacing the histories of art architecture design and photography as well as the history of art history the texts analyze a century-long period the golden age of museums in Europe and view the evolution of museums which played so critical a part in the construction of Italy's identity after it was unified within international interactions and exchanges.
